Gluten Free Guide: Indiana

Disclaimer: These are all restaurants I have either been to myself, a friend who is gluten free has been too, or they are a dedicated gluten free business. One’s experience with a restaurant will differ from another’s. Also, remember that everyone’s sensitivity to gluten differs so dine at your discretion.

Bloomington & Surrounding Areas

*Irish Lion: Does not have gluten free menu but cooks and waiters are knowledgeable about cross contamination. I like their fish and shrimp dinner meals! Shepard’s pie & corn beef and cabbage are gf. Will accommodate lactose/dairy, just tell them no butter, cheese, etc.

*Rainbow Bakery: Dedicated vegan bakery. Has delicious gluten free baked goods!

*Buccetos: Has gluten free menu with several options.

*Olive Garden: Has gluten free menu, few options. Pasta is corn based.

*McAlister’s Deli: Has gluten free menu. Also has gluten free bread available (at certain locations) Sandwiches are good, also taco salad is amazing!

*Chick fil a: Knowledgeable about gluten free, will “red flag” order. Gluten free bun available per request with grilled chicken sandwich. Best fast food restaurant for gluten free!

Red Robin: Has gluten free menu. Buns/bread available. I’ve heard awesome things about them.

*Wendy’s: Certain salads, baked potato (left in foil to avoid cross contamination), hamburger (no bun). Fries are NOT GF!

*Chipotle: Most items are gluten free. Make sure to ask them to change gloves, etc.

*Bloomingfoods Co-op: Deli style with items on buffet. Awesome co-op grocery store too!

*Noodle & Company: Has gluten free options. I get the Pad Thai because it is already gluten free, it’s made with rice noodles.

Seymour & Columbus

*The Brooklyn Pizza Company: Seymour, IN. Has delicious gluten free pizza, owner is knowledgeable about gluten and celiac disease.

1852 Cafe: 100% gluten free cafe that recently opened in Seymour! They are also connected with 1823 Bakehouse located in Franklin!

*Noodle & Company: Columbus, IN. See above

*Chick Fil A: Columbus, IN. See above

*Chipotle: Columbus, IN. See above

Indianapolis & Surrounding Areas

*P.F. Chang’s: Has gluten free menu, also gluten free meals will be served on a plate with “P.J. Chang’s” written on it. Delicious food! This is one of my favorite restaurants, if not my favorite! Also, has a yummy chocolate dome dessert.

*Harry & Izzyy’s: Does a fantastic job at accommodating those with gluten intolerance & food allergies! I’ve gotten their hamburger on gluten free bun and their fries are so good! Great menu options.

*1823 Bakehouse: 100% gf cafe in Franklin! Really good and a must stop if you’re in the area!

*macaron bar: bakery dedicated to french macarons. SO good! All are gluten free. Located downtown Indy next to Flying Cupcake.

Ezra’s Enlightened Cafe (dedicated gf): Dedicated gluten free, dairy free, non-GMO. Health conscious and fresh foods.

The Melting Pot: Haven’t been to myself, have heard good things about.

*Joe’s Crab Shack: I haven’t been to this location but I’m assuming they are all (about) the same. Good options. If you can get there when they first open, cross contamination is more unlikely (the case with anywhere though).

*Bee Free Gluten Free Bakery: (no store front), Noblesville, IN. I have tried their products at the Gluten Free Expo and I love their cookies! They’re dairy free too!

Simple Taste Inc (dedicated gf): Carmel, IN. Gluten, dairy, and yeast free bakery. Looks amazing!

*Bonefish Grill: Delicious food, good menu, and of course good seafood!

Weber Grill Restaurant: Menu looks really good and many options. Have heard great things!

The Caveman (dedicated gf food truck!): Looks awesome! Gluten free and grass fed beef.

The Ice Barn: Brownsburg, IN. Looks similar to tropical snow snowcones.

*The Flying Cupcake: (3 locations)- Indianapolis, Carmel, Greenwood. I have been to the location in Greenwood. Cupcakes are really yummy! Sometimes have gf/dairy free cupcakes available too.

*Cheeseburger in Paradise: Good options. Burgers and fries are really good.

Red Robin: Has gluten free menu. Buns/bread available. I’ve heard awesome things about them.

*Uno’s Chicago Grill: Southport, IN. Awesome! We’ve tried almost everything on their gf menu. Really good pizza, able to accommodate other dietary restrictions. Also, good hamburgers, salmon, etc.

*Chick fil a: Knowledgeable about gluten free, will “red flag” order. Gluten free bun available per request with grilled chicken sandwich. Best fast food restaurant for gluten free!

McAlisters: Has gluten free menu. Also has gluten free bread available (at certain locations) Sandwiches are good, also taco salad is amazing!

Olive Garden: Has gluten free menu, few options. Pasta is corn based.

**Cafe Patachou: Posh diner that specializes in breakfast/brunch. Plenty of gf options, including egg dishes (scrambled, omelets), a phenomenal gf waffle, sandwiches with gf bread, and salads. Also, their turkey chili is gf and so good!

**Napolese Pizzeria: the owner of Cafe Patachou started this pizzeria. They have the best gf crust!

**Gallery Pastry Shop: Make pastries in front of you. Small individual pastries, including gf macaroons, opera cake, and Provence. Macaroons are $1 on Wednesdays! Also, offer a limited menu of breakfast/lunch on the weekend (salad topped with amazing charcuterie meat  is the only option for gf, but it’s still great!), but they offer a wonderful brunch (try the  egg and wild mushroom hash and side of caramelized fruit!)

**Public Greens: Cafeteria that embraces the farm-to-table style, have their own garden right in the store! Great selection of meats (roasted fish, beef, chicken) and sides (kale salad, zucchini noodles with peanut dressing) and gf cookies!

**Garden Table: Broad Ripple and Massachusetts Avenue. Great place to stop for brunch or coffee. Both locations offer different styles of food. Location on Mass Ave is open later and specializes in more Latino/Middle Eastern foods, and offers drinks. Broad Ripple location specializes in healthier comfort/brunch food. The pesto quinoa with poached egg and veggies is delicious! Both locations offer a hand-rolled nut/date/coconut ball-great for a snack!

**Louie’s Wine Dive: Broad Ripple and Massachusetts’s Avenue. Both have the same menu. A lot  of the items are gluten free or can be made gf. (Amazing gf fish and chips and Brussels sprout sides!)

**Hops & Fire: Indianapolis. Has many gluten free options.

*Scotty’s Brewhouse: Many locations including Indianapolis and Carmel. I have been here once myself and did not have the best experience. My hamburger bun was not gluten free and they had to go back, my glass was dirty, and it seems like there was a hair on my food…BUT, I have heard many other good experiences from others in the gluten free community. This could have just been the location I went to..

**Petite Chou: Carmel, Indianapolis, and Broad Ripple locations.

**Mahnin: Fort Wayne on Calhoun. Burmese food. Owner is very helpful with dietary restrictions and everything is naturally dairy free as well.

**Rack & Helen’s Social House: everything is gluten free except for one side dish. All made in house. Reader said it was really good and they had to double check it was gluten free cause it tasted so good!

Good Riddance Gluten Free Bakery: dedicated gluten free bakery where everything is made from scratch!

Lafayette & Surrounding Areas

*Grindstone Charley’s :Awesome gf menu, customer service, and accommodating other dietary restrictions! Menu changes with the season. We’ve tried almost everything on their menu. Love their salmon burger and chicken!

*Greyhouse Coffee & Supply Co.: Wonderful coffee/tea shop! All of their teas are gluten free. Also have soy milk, almond milk & coconut milk alternatives. Gluten free crepes available (they look amazing!), let them know that gluten free is because of intolerance, not “preference.”

Sweet Revolution Bake shop: Has some gluten free options-ask which ones are because they are not always labeled. Also have ‘Macaroon Wednesday’ and they are all gluten free because they’re made with almond flour (the rhubarb one is dairy free too!)

*Noodle & Company: Has gluten free options. I get the Pad Thai because it is already gluten free, it’s made with rice noodles.

*Basil Leaf: Has many gluten free options. All of their curries are gf, along with a soup, the pad thai and satay. The Pad Thai and Satay are delicious! Large portions for a great price. When you go, ask them for the gluten free menu. Very small “hole in the wall” with great food. Located at Chauncey Village basically on Purdue’s campus.

*Sushi Don: Regular sushi menu, easy to read. Avoid anything fried and the shrimp tempura. Can ask waiter for gluten free soy sauce. Go during their half price hours!

*Core Life Eatery: Everything in the restaurant is gluten free EXCEPT their bread. Burrito bowl type meals. Big portions.

*EMT Food Truck: Offers gluten free, vegetarian & vegan options. Their Mediterranean pasta salad is really good!

The Fig & The Vine: Lebanon, IN. Good at accommodating different dietary restrictions. All of their soups are gluten free, sandwiches can be made with gf bread, and baked goods available. Looks awesome!

*Chick fil a: Knowledgeable about gluten free, will “red flag” order. Gluten free bun available per request with grilled chicken sandwich. Best fast food restaurant for gluten free!

*McAlister’s Deli: Has gluten free menu. Also has gluten free bread available (at certain locations) Sandwiches are good, also taco salad is amazing!

*HuHot Mongolian Grill: Knowledgeable about gluten intolerance and allergies. Will clean the grill.

*Olive Garden: Has gluten free menu, few options. Pasta is corn based.
