Hey there! I hope you all have had a good Monday!
So over the weekend, I went to Family Christian Store at Bloomington and found a prayer journal. I’ve been wanting something to write verses in and to reflect on. I started the prayer journal yesterday and I really like it. It has topics for 14-day reading plans, what word/phrase spoke to your heart, how does the reading relate to your life and room to write. Since I started the journal on Valentine’s Day I decided to start off reading a 14-day reading plan that’s over Love. I’m going to use today’s reading for this week’s post!
The entire reading in the prayer journal was 1 John 4: 7-21. Since that is kind of long, I decided to just do the last bit.
1 John 4:19-21
“We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”
I really like the phrase “we love because he first loved us.” It shows where our feeling of love comes from. In order to show love to others, you must love and know God. You can’t have love in your heart if you don’t love God. The rest of the verse kind of struck me when I read it. How it says if you can’t love your brothers and sisters, who we see, how can we love God who we can’t see. I’m not sure why it struck me since it’s kind of an obvious command. We can’t see God, yet we love him. We see people every day yet we don’t always show love to them.
The passage made me feel good after reading it 🙂 To just concentrate on one passage and see how it relates to your life. The love that I feel in my heart is from God. That’s pretty amazing that he gave me the ability to feel love. But that’s because God is love.
I hope you can see how this passage relates to your life.
Feeling loved,
Ciara
