Hey everyone! I hope you all had a good long weekend for Labor Day!
So my roommate and I thought doing a college dorm room decor blog post would be a good idea!
My freshman year I decorated some but this year I wanted to have some more decorations. I love decorating and picking out what theme or color scheme to go with. As you can see, my theme is black and white. I like the classic look that black and white gives and how you can throw in splashes of other colors with it. I like to pair pink or blue with black and white.
The first decorations I put up were the pictures. I love having tons of pictures in my room and the spot above my bed was the perfect spot. I found these cute clothespins at Target (I think) in the dollar section. They’re black and white. There were also pink and blue ones available.
And yes, your college dorm room wouldn’t be complete without lights. I have them above my bed and desk. I found the ones I have over my bed at Rue 21…and of course, they were on sale! haha 🙂 They’re in the shape of daisies.
I’m a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn and loved these “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” posters. I found the large black and white one at Von’s in West Lafayette and the movie ad one at Hobby Lobby. I also found the Eiffel Tower one at Hobby Lobby, it was on sale for around $3. Also, all of their posters are 50% off all the time! I recently added the London poster, which came from a poster tent on campus.
I also love having quotes all over my room. I have them on my walls, bulletin board and fridge. I actually have my dresser at home covered in quotes. I saw an idea where you can print the quotes and verses you see off of Pinterest on nice paper. I thought that was a nifty idea! The pictures below were some printed off of Pinterest.
Something I’ve found to be an essential is to have a bedside table in your dorm. Bringing your own nightstand up from home is a great idea. It’s a place where you can put your phone, alarm clock, water bottle, picture frames, etc. I was able to find this one at a cute antique shop in Nashville, Tennessee for $15!
Your desk doesn’t have to be boring for your school work. And for me, it isn’t just a place for school work. I use it to cook, eat, read and even use it to do my makeup sometimes. I use my desk a lot.
My desk decorations have changed some, two of these pictures were taken the week I moved in and I didn’t have my nightstand up here yet.
Another area of my room that I use a lot is my dresser. This is where my refrigerator and microwave are at. Since I do A LOT of cooking in my room, this space gets used a lot.
On top of my fridge, I have food bags and spices. I don’t like to put tall items on top of the fridge because I’m afraid they’ll fall…and I’m short.
This cart is very handy! I can keep so much food in it! It’s wonderful to have, especially if you do all your cooking in your dorm like I do.
These hooks on the side of my fridge are handy as well. Once I’ve finished washing my dishes, I can just hang the towels up and know where they’ll be. I also kept forgetting to take my hot pads down to the kitchenette when I cook there, so I put them on the hooks so I can see them regularly.
I’m thinking of doing a blog post on organizing and cooking in college dorms!
Let me know what you think! Also, feel free to send some pictures of your college dorm and your decor!
