Dear 21 year old

Dear 21 year old,

It’s your  21st birthday and you’re trying to decide how you want to celebrate. Society tells you that you should “cut loose”, relax, have a good time, all while meaning: “drink to get drunk.” But you don’t want to celebrate how society tells you to. You want to actually remember your 21st birthday. And who says you have to be like society?

Alcohol wasn’t given to us to be abused. It was given to us as a gift, just like everything else is. It wasn’t given for us to get drunk on.

Ephesians 5:18 “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit…”

All you really want to do for your 21st birthday is relax and have fun your way, not society’s. Your idea of fun is going to the nearest thrift store searching to find the perfect vintage loafers or tea cup. Or going to the mall with your mom and hanging out. Or staying in with your roommates and watching an old movie while painting your nails. That sounds like fun..and something you’ll remember.

Sure it’s fine if you want to go out and try a glass of wine. There is nothing wrong with that. But, remember where your heart is. Remember where your priorities lie and whom you belong to (child of the one true king).

Thank God for another birthday to celebrate while honoring him at the same time!

Sincerely,

A “not so typical” 21 year old

21st bday
